A journey - through 26 years of FRUIT LOGISTICA
FRUIT LOGISTICA saw the light of day
"The first FRUIT LOGISTICA in 1993 was the direct progeny of the very popular Fresh Produce Forum, a conference event which had been held for a number of years as part of the International Green Week exhibition. It thus satisfied the demand for a specialised trade exhibition exclusively for the fresh fruit and vegetable business and was intended to provide a regular annual meeting place for fresh produce suppliers and their customers.
FRUIT LOGISTICA was organised in cooperation with Fruchthandel Magazine and took place in the newly constructed Hall 26.
110 exhibitors, 69% of them from outside Germany, and 1,014 visitors, 31% from outside Germany, met for the first time in Berlin in an exhibition area of 4,000 m².
This first event was the first chapter in the long success story of FRUIT LOGISTICA.
FRUIT LOGISTICA supports Berliner Tafel e.V.
It was the first time, when Ms Sabine Werth picked up the leftover food from FRUIT LOGISTICA with her private car in year 1994.The leftovers where afterwards handed out to social institutions in Berlin.
One year later, in 1995, there were already 5 people with five small cars working for the Berlin food bank called “Berliner Tafel” to pick up the leftover food.
Now, in year 2016, there are more than 380 people with 24 large trucks picking up more than 100 tons of high quality food. Instead of ending up in the bin all the leftovers where distributed to social institutions in Berlin within one week.

The whole world of fresh produce gets together at FRUIT LOGISTICA. Messe Berlin hostesses presented fruits from all over the world.
In addition, the focus this year included two important topics: The ever-increasing pressure to reduce costs and the variety of packaging options. The industry concludes: "There's no alternative to re-usable plastic crates."

Fresh Produce Forum – in a nutshell!
17th Fresh produce Forum reaches all time record with over 700 delegates/visitors in 1998.
Experts from academic institutions and from all links in the fruit and vegetable supply chain consider the issue at hand from different viewpoints, developing new strategies and finding new solutions. From the field to the point of sale, the range of topics covers the entire value chain: new challenges for growers, new strategies for marketing and logistics, the importance of innovation, international consumer trends.
There has been a substantial rise in the number of exhibitors, by 55 per cent, and a 40 per cent increase in the display space compared with last year’s event, with the result that the FRUIT LOGISTICA ’99 presents the widest range of products and services ever, from every continent. Not only are there more countries than ever before, but there are also more foreign exhibitors. Compared with last year their numbers have risen by more than 71 per cent to 271 (1998: 158). Taking part for the first time will be companies from Thailand. FRUIT LOGISTICA ’99 will occupy an overall area of 10,748 square metres (6,373 m² net) in Halls 26a, 26b and 26c on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds

On the occasion of his country’s first official participation in the opening press conference, Paul O’Sullivan, the Australian ambassador in Berlin, took part.
The first time there - South Africa!
In 2002 South Africa participated for the first time. Stuart Symington, CEO of Exporters Forum South Africa, Cape Town, and South African exhibitors presented the country’s produce.

"5 A Day" campaign
5 portions of fruit and vegetables every day! This simple rule is the focus of the “5 per day” campaign. People who eat 3 portions of vegetables and 2 portions of fruit every day supply their bodies many important vitamins. The nutrition campaign is supported by the “5 per Day” organization – a network of around 100 members from the areas of healthcare, science and industry. FRUIT LOGISTICA has supported this worldwide campaign from the very start (EU funding since 2002).
Internationality is one of the trademarks of FRUIT LOGISTICA
This year 65.3% of the trade visitors were international; the share of international exhibitors reached 79.6%.
Hungary participation as a new EU Member (EU since 2014)
"The FRUIT LOGISTICA is the most important trade fair for Hungary. Hungary’s long-term commercial strategy is to supply the demanding EU market with high quality fruit and vegetables. Fruit Logistica Innovation Award - FLIA
The FLIA (FRUIT LOGISTICA Innovation Award) makes its debut. The award recognizes outstanding innovations in the entire fresh produce supply chain, ranging from production all the way to point of sale.
Exhibitors can enter their innovative products, services or technical innovations in the competition. The trade visitors select the Innovation of the Year.
By 2016, 533 entries from 50 countries had been submitted

Jan Doldersum, Manager Marketing & Business Development, Rijk Zwaan (Netherlands) accepted the first FRUIT LOGISTICA Innovation Award:

Asia Fruit Logistica - premiere in Bangkok!
Fresh Fruit & Vegetable in Asia. Asia’s leading fresh fruit and vegetable trade show started in year 2007.
More than 3000 trade visitors from 54 countries as well as 116 exhibitors from 24 countries were part of the first ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA. At that time the Asia Fruit Congress was held for the 10th time - with 650 visitors from 54 countries.

Chile, this year's FRUIT LOGISTICA partner country and the leading fruit exporter in the southern hemisphere, will be represented by its leading companies and industry representatives.
The trade fair was also attended by Chilean Minister of Agriculture, Marigén Hornkohl. Other officials included: Egyptian Minister of Agriculture Amin Abaza, Greek Minister of Agriculture Sotiris Chatzigakis, Trade Minister Lic. Fredis Cerrato from Honduras, Jorge Ruede Sousa, Mexican Minister for Europe and Italian Minister of Agriculture Luca Zaia.
39 Ambassadors and a number of national delegations were on hand to represent their countries and set up new business contacts.
Convenience - the supreme discipline of freshness....
The market share of fresh-cut products continues to grow.
The market for ready-to-eat fresh produce products continues to show positive developments, although the 25% increase in growth from a few years ago can no longer be realized. Annual gains in this market segment are now around 3-4%.
