The AI-620-SNT seed drill (image) with mechanical seed distribution is specially designed for optimal performance – with more compact dimensions that now vary between one, two and three metres. Not only the toolbar has been improved, the gearbox concept is also new. A single interface controls the amount of seed in each row along with the distribution of fertilisers and insecticides or fungicides. Users can choose between the electro-hydraulic and the latest electric gearbox instead of the standard mechanical gearbox. This not only makes seed distribution easier with improved weight measurement, but also disengages the roller transfer. Rollers are either stainless steel or rubber coated. For the rollers, users can also choose between the standard mechanical gearbox or the hydraulic gearbox.
Fruit and vegetables combined with cheese
Buoninsieme Solarelli is an innovative ready-to-eat product containing 45 grams of Italian cheese and 100 grams of washed, fresh-cut fruit or vegetables. This gourmet snack combines convenience with good taste and Italian food tradition. Buoninsieme Solarelli is available in five different varieties: "Cacio Romagnolo" with apple and feta cheese, "Scoparolo" with pear and goat cheese, "Capretta" with strawberries and soft goat cheese, "Antiche Fosse" with seedless grapes and fossa cheese, and "Squacquerone" with vegetables and soft cheese (image). According to the exhibitor, fresh produce and cheese are being combined for the first time in their new gourmet snack. The idea is the result of a collaboration between two leading companies: Apofruit Italia, which supplies the fruit and vegetables, and Antica Cascina, supplier of the cheese.
Fully biodegradable and recyclable packaging
The Azienda Ortoflorovivaistica dei Fratelli Simonato company based in Italy is introducing a new, fully-biodegradable and recyclable packaging concept at its FRUIT LOGISTICA stand in CityCube Berlin. Bio Kepos 3 (image) is an innovative, eco-friendly packaging specially developed for organically-grown aromatic herbs. It includes three components: a 10cm-diameter pot made from plant fibres that can be disposed of after use in an organic waste bin and composted together with the plant and soil; a transparent bag made from a fully-biodegradable industrial material that can be placed in the residual waste container; and a leaflet made from certified food-grade paper that can be thrown into the wastepaper bin after use.
Excellent manoeuvrability and compact dimensions
BABINI GIORGIO is presenting the Sirio15.4 at FRUIT LOGISTICA, a new 15q off-road forklift with permanent four-wheel drive (image). Key advantages include excellent manoeuvrability and, thanks to a low centre of gravity, suitability for operation on terrain with steep longitudinal or transverse slopes. With an operator's platform that is very low to the ground, the forklift requires minimal height clearance. This ensures outstanding ergonomics when climbing into and operating the vehicle along with optimal front and rear visibility. Another advantage of the Sirio15.4 is its compact dimensions. Height and width are lower than other models to ensure easy use in newly designed orchards and vineyards with reduced planting distance. Entering cellars and warehouses with doorway clearances of just over two metres is no problem. The off-road forklift has a load capacity of 1,500 kilograms with a triplex height of 3.2 metres and a duplex height of 2.5 metres.
Longer lasting, better colour, higher quality
The fully-integrated, patented stand system (image) from BanaNatural can be used to collect, transport, distribute and display banana bunches at the point of sale. Over the past year, it has been widely used in Greece across the entire supply chain. The eco-friendly steel stand is reusable and eliminates the need for plastic crates or disposable boxes on supermarket shelves. Bananas on the stand remain attached to the stem from storage to sale. This prevents the loss of natural juices and extends the shelf life. Bananas are yellow with uniform colouring and better quality. The innovative system has helped increase sales in Greece, significantly reduce losses, and generate higher profits. Another advantage of the BanaNatural stand system: banana bundles are not separated, which reduces the amount of fungicides required.
Rapid effect on growth and plant colour
DCM VISCOTEC® BLUE (image) is an innovative liquid fertiliser developed for controlled organic agriculture and horticulture. Its high concentration of 9% nitrogen and 5% potassium (K2O) has a rapid effect on plant growth and colour. The highly soluble, odourless gel formula contains no animal-based raw materials. It can be easily dosed and applied with all types of fertigation systems as a continuous supplemental fertiliser or a correcting fertiliser. The new liquid fertiliser also provides a biostimulator effect with plant-based amino acids to stimulate root system growth. The enlarged root surface increases nutrient absorption leading to better above-ground growth and more robust plants with a higher resistance to abiotic stress.
Efficient cleaning without chemicals
No need for chemicals to clean efficiently and thoroughly. This has been confirmed by the Hamburg-based Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology Dr. Brill + Partner in a performance report on the Blue Evolution S (image) steam cleaning system manufactured by beam. Researchers applied the stringent 4-field test criteria, the basis for future EN 16615 standards, and arrived at an outstanding 2.89 log bacteria reduction for the Blue Evolution S. The HACCP-certified unit delivers excellent cleaning performance for removing bacteria from a PVC surface. It cleans without biocidal or other chemical substances, such as surfactants, that can remain on the surface in conventional processes. A surface cleaned with the Blue Evolution S is also optimally prepared for disinfection.
Super sweet and deep purple
The vegetable seed breeding company Bejo is introducing Erasmus F1 (image), the first 100% male purple asparagus, at FRUIT LOGISTICA 2019. It can be cultivated in cold and medium-temperature climates. Fresh and unpeeled, it is ideal for salads, stir-fries or grilled. This super-sweet asparagus is best left uncooked to preserve the rich purple colour that can be lost during cooking. Due to its unique characteristics, Erasmus is positioned differently than the well-known green and white asparagus varieties and makes an interesting addition to the conventional asparagus assortment. Thanks to its sweet taste, it can be eaten raw – ideal for attracting the attention of younger consumers who like meals that are fast and healthy.
Online management system for eco-sustainability
Developed by Blue North Sustainability, SHERPA (image) is an online sustainability management system. It is designed to help management teams in the agricultural supply chain to proactively and effectively develop and implement sustainability strategies. SHERPA enables users to strategically evaluate their business operations against a commodity-specific sustainability framework and calculate sustainability indicators from primary business data. This creates a clear picture of a company's sustainability performance and supports prioritisation of sustainability characteristics for improvement. SHERPA can also be used to create and manage business-specific action plans. A powerful farm mapping tool and benchmark performance complying with all major standards supports users in preparing for multiple audits.
Marketing tool thanks to personalised labelling
The Blulog company based in Poland is introducing new 2G loggers (image) designed to monitor temperature and humidity during transport and storage of perishable goods. The devices measure various parameters and upload the data to a cloud. Autonomous loggers transmit the data via 2G network, to give users worldwide coverage. They can also serve as a gateway for standard RF loggers. Cost-effective and compact, the loggers can be easily installed and integrated into pallets or crates. Thanks to its ability to personalise labels, this practical, plug-and-play solution can also be used as a marketing tool.
Dark red colour, and sweet-tangy taste
The "Wonderful" pomegranate (image) from the "Alce Nero" organic farming association is produced in Italy. This fruit is characterised by a dark red colour inside and out. The arils have a sweet-tangy taste and can be easily removed from the shell. They are especially flavourful and practically seedless. The innovative and distinctive packaging consists of a recycled paper tray with handles. Each box contains two fruits with a total weight of 750 grams (image). The colourful, eye-catching design conveys the product appeal with a description of its wonderful characteristics and useful tips to peel and enjoy the pomegranate in just a few minutes. A practical recipe book can be downloaded using the QR code printed on the package.
State-of-the-art technology for harvesting blueberries
Air-jet harvesting technology can harvest over 95% of a plant's ripe blueberries without damage. The berries are shaken off the plant and collected on pneumatic cushions to prevent bruising. As a result, 80-90% of the total harvested blueberries can be sent to market. The proportion of white powder on the blueberry membrane is similar to a manual harvest. Pneumatic cushions are air-filled rubber parts on plastic catchers with continuous air flow to intercept shocks when the berries drop. According to the exhibitors, the unique air jet technology for fresh products is internationally patented. This state-of-the-art technology is used in the KOKAN500S harvester (image).
Flat bottom, big round body and refreshing coconut water
Diamond Shape is the exhibitor's class A+ quality coconut with a flat bottom, large round body, pyramid-shaped tip and white skin colour. Added to this is the refreshing coconut water inside – without added sugar, preservatives, artificial colouring or flavours. These extremely fresh and healthy premium coconuts (image) from Thai growers are shipped daily, worldwide. They are packaged and exported by Coconut Siam Export Co Ltd., which is exhibiting this year for the first time at FRUIT LOGISTICA. Cultivation of these high-quality coconuts requires a special environment that is rich in natural resources – especially vital minerals, fertile soil and sufficient moisture. According to the exhibitor, this is the key to producing coconuts in the right size and weight with refreshing water inside.
Automatically removes up to 300 avocado pits per minute
The 300-AVC Avocado Pitter (image) is, according to the exhibitor, the world's first machine capable of pitting avocados. Prior to the launch of this innovative system (international patent pending), avocados were manually pitted on a processing line. This procedure was much slower and less profitable. The avocado pitter was designed by R&D engineers at CTI FoodTech. The patent for the machine is owned by Biagio Crescenzo, who has registered more than 100 patents worldwide. Thanks to its high nutritional value and unique taste, the avocado has become widely recognised in recent years as a healthy premium food. This has led to rapid growth in its market potential. CTI FoodTech is planning to tap into this expanding market with an innovative machine that is capable of automatically aligning and pitting up to 300 avocados per minute.
Temperature monitoring – automatic and wireless
FlashTrak PreCool Prime (image) is an automated wireless solution that monitors and records temperature during pre-cooling, and alerts when correct internal produce temperature is reached. This allows operators to remove pallets just in time and avoid problems associated with over cooling or under cooling. The net result is an increase in pallet throughput and improved operational efficiency. This system has the added advantage of pallet level traceability by attaching a Cold Chain iToken™ label to each pallet and scanning the barcode to associate the pallet to a tunnel number and the pre-cool data. The Cold Chain iToken™ can also associate the pallet and pre-cool data to a PTI label (Produce Traceability Initiative), or other identification, such as lot code or order number. The system records data and archives it for traceability, analysis, audits and verification of compliance with GHP (Good Handling Practices).
Up to 50% recycled PET products
DuPont Teijin Films is introducing its new Harvest Fresh rPET series to the market. These heat-sealable polyester films contain up to 50% recycled PET products. The company has succeeded in combining the unique heat-sealing properties of Harvest Fresh films with a base film made from rPET polymer for contact with food products. The benefits of Harvest Fresh Mylar® film series (image) are less waste, lower cost of premium seal lidding, and a reduced carbon footprint. The recycled lidding and bowl material enable retailers to convey a clear and consistent sustainability message to consumers. The exhibitor worked on product development in close cooperation with a global leader in rPET polymer. The raw material comes exclusively from PET bottle recycling systems in Denmark, Germany, Finland, Norway and Sweden.
Real-time alerts via mobile technology
The GO Real-Time CO2 Tracker (image) makes it easier to monitor carbon dioxide levels in shipments of fresh produce. Using mobile technology, the device provides real-time alerts as shipments move through the supply chain. According to the exhibitor, this easy-to-use system provides global visibility at an affordable cost. Simply place the tracker in a container or trailer and input the serial number in the Oversight Dashboard or mobile app for real-time access to shipment data. In addition to CO2 monitoring, the device has sensors that determine temperature, location and light intensity. The GO Real-Time CO2 Tracker can be recharged and reused. It is available as a subscription with single or multi-use options.
Always freshly grated
Feldbacher Fruit Partners came up with a brilliant idea: pack freshly-grated horseradish in glass jars to keep it fresh with a longer shelf life. This product is now available in different varieties: classic, apple and wasabi. The company's latest product innovation is the striking new Rooty's brand (image). This freshly-grated horseradish sold in the refrigerated section has a naturally-spicy taste and a six-month shelf life. Its 100% fresh quality comes from many years of experience in horseradish production. The ideal seasoning for a variety of dishes, Rooty's horseradish goes well with fish, meat, soup, salad or cold platters. Since the Middle Ages, horseradish has been known for spicing up body, mind and soul. A portion of freshly grated, freshly cleaned Rooty's brings invigorating freshness and flavour –from field to fork.
Fruits and vegetables stay fresh longer
FRUIT LOGISTICA 2019 is where the US-based exhibitor is introducing a new, user-friendly US-patented technology that extends the freshness and shelf life of food and flowers by 30-50%. The Food Freshness Card™ (image) has been laboratory-tested and used commercially by supermarkets, restaurants and importers to keep fruit, vegetables and bread fresh longer. It is designed to reduce product shrinkage and spoilage during transport and at the point of sale. The new technology is registered with three US patents and has received multiple awards, including the recent United Fresh Innovation Award 2018 in the Best New Food Safety Solution category. The Food Freshness Card™ is also suitable for berries, pre-cut products, leafy vegetables and other short shelf-life products.

A new fresh-cut line with selected fruits has been added to the "F.lli Orsero" brand of premium fruits produced by hand in Italy to meet and exceed international standards for food safety. Packed without preservatives, the top-quality fruit is tasty, fresh and pure. The packaging is marked with a guarantee seal. Ready-to-eat products come with a fork (image). F.lli Orsero Fresh Cut includes a complete range of seasonal products and package sizes for different sales channels. Production is handled by the Orsero Group in Verona, Molfetta (BA) and in Florence. These three geographically-strategic locations ensure fast and comprehensive service throughout Italy.
Automatic height measurement for correct coring depth
FRUIT LOGISTICA 2019 is where FTNON, a division of the JBT Corporation, is introducing its new SPD-200 system (image) for coring bell peppers. This more hygienic two-pocket system is easy to operate by one person manually placing two peppers into the machine at the same time. The height of the fruit is automatically measured to determine the correct coring depth. The drum that holds the peppers is open on one side, making it easier to clean the system. Adjusting the cutter in the segmentation station produces fruits cut into two, four, six or eight pieces. The blades are mounted a 3D printed holder and can be removed for producing hollow, whole peppers. One machine operator can process around 2,000 peppers per hour with the SPD-200.
Low in calories, rich in nutrients and special textures
Exhibiting at FRUIT LOGISTICA for the first time, Good Morning Korea Co., Ltd. is presenting a premium range of mushrooms along with the latest findings on special features and health benefits (image). The king oyster mushroom, for example, gained its royal status as a tasty variety regarded as the one of the world's finest gourmet mushrooms. It has a longer shelf life than other varieties, is low in calories, easily digestible and is considered one of the best mushrooms due to its resistant texture. Enoki mushrooms are known for their health-promoting properties. These tender white mushrooms with long, velvety stems and small caps have a sweet, mild taste. They also help break down body fat in the intestine, help control blood sugar levels and prevent intestinal problems. Shimeji is a spicy mushroom with a nutty taste. It is very tender and retains its light colour and firmness when cooked. All of these mushroom varieties are rich in vitamin B6, vitamin D, pantothenic acid, potassium, riboflavin, magnesium, selenium, copper and thiamine.
Hydro Fert will be presenting Activeg, one of its new biostimulant products, at FRUIT LOGISTICA 2019. The exhibitor is especially proud of this product because it is 100% plant-based. Activeg is obtained from the enzymatic hydrolysate of Fabaceae biomass. This special manufacturing process enables a good degree of hydrolysis and a high concentration of active compounds related to vegetal cultures. The product contains the natural biostimulant triacontanol and laevorotatory free amino acids. These two ingredients enhance chlorophyll photosynthesis along with anti-stress and biostimulant activity. Activeg can be used in foliar and root applications. Especially in the leaf area, it promotes biomass production and vegetal metabolism.

Longer shelf life for fresh-cut products
The DECONWA washing system manufactured by KRONEN sanitises apples for fresh-fruit salads, reduces the spoilage rate, and enhances consumer safety – all without chemical additives. It can be fully integrated into existing processing lines and used for similar fresh produce. A temperature-controlled process reduces bacteria level at 50°C. The insulated system is optimised for use in refrigerated rooms. The storage period for apples can be precisely controlled and hot water recirculated. Hygienic design and optimal cleaning are guaranteed. The system was developed as part of a research project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) and the company Mirontell Fein & Frisch AG
Versatile stone burier
FRUIT LOGISTICA 2019 is where the company Massano A. di Massano Valerio & C. snc based in Italy is introducing its advanced RSC stone burier with bed former/shaper. According to the exhibitor, the machine can be built with different working widths from ranging from 125 to 185 centimetres to meet the demands of modern farmers. This professional machine is designed for working on hard ground with tractors from 70 to 120 HP. Thanks to its versatility, farmers can attach a wide variety of implements, including a fertiliser spreader, foil laying machine or drip hoses. This makes it possible to adapt the RSC COMBI version for specific applications (image).
Virtually noiseless, low-wear and energy-efficient
Designed for low-wear, high-speed applications, the new Mosca EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-H (image) with patented ultrasonic technology has been added to the company's range of horizontal strapping machines. Celebrating its debut at FRUIT LOGISTICA 2019, this model triple-straps up to 180 packages per hour. Operation is virtually noiseless with maximum energy efficiency and minimum wear. The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-H features a freely movable horizontal strap guide frame. Packages with a height of up to 2.3 metres are placed beneath the frame with or without protective cardboard. Thanks to the horizontal frame positioning, products can be optimally strapped even when they are not perfectly aligned with the sealing unit.
Monitoring optimal product flow
MULTIPOND weighing systems independently monitor optimal product flow. 3D cameras on the scales (image) linked to the controller provide data on the occupancy of the distribution cone and vibrator trays. A computer evaluates this information and independently initiates correct action. This system has been patented by the company. On earlier MULTIPOND weighing systems, pre-weighing provided details on the amount of product on the distribution cone. Now, the patented 3D cameras provide additional information about where and how much product is located on the distribution cone and in the feed trays. Based on this image information, the weighing system can respond, for example, by selectively controlling individual feed trays. This makes it possible to quickly and automatically correct overfills or detect and resolve product gaps.
Attractive packaging with self-adhesive labels
With full-wrap labelling, which is also known as D-labelling, a label is wrapped around four sides of a pack similar to a sleeve or band. This offers a wide variety of package design options and significantly increases attractiveness at the point of sale. Full-wrap labelling with a MULTIVAC conveyor belt labeller maximises automation and label positioning accuracy with a wide range of label shapes and materials. It also ensures more flexibility when it comes to packaging shapes. The MULTIVAC L 310 full-wrap labeller processes self-adhesive labels with a width of up to 500 millimetres. Conveyor belt labellers can also be equipped with additional label dispensers, for example, to supplement the full-wrap label with a special promotional action label.
Compatible with virtual power plants
Netled is presenting the new 1400 Mikromol version (image) of its Overhead™ LED luminaire series at FRUIT LOGISTICA 2019. This system is ideal for high-intensity production of plants ranging from tomatoes and cucumbers to bell peppers. In greenhouses with high ceilings, the new luminaire is also suitable for leafy vegetables and herbs. The innovative suspension system can be installed without tools using low-cost steel wire hangers. According to the exhibitor, the Overhead™ 1400 system for the recommended applications is competitively priced. Its high light output per unit allows replacement of 1,000W HPS lamps. Other benefits include full-digital control, which optimises the costs per spot. The new luminaire is also compatible with virtual power plants. This makes it possible to integrate farming operations into the energy market. The system offsets peak loads in the power grid and practically pays for itself.
Faster drying with less energy
The company PIGO srl develops and manufactures advanced industrial freeze dryers (image). The range of lyophilizers includes a wide variety of standard and custom models. There are significant differences between the exhibitor's PIGO EASY Freeze DRYING technology (lyophilization) and other freeze-drying techniques. PIGO products reduce drying time by 15-20% and consume less energy. A top priority for the developers was to ensure all system components are readily accessible and easy to clean. This prevents bacteria or residue from contaminating the machine components or being transferred to food. In addition, all phases of the drying process are designed for easy, fast, and efficient operation and maintenance.
Coring and cutting apples, pears and peaches
The DRR cutting machine (image) cores apples, pears and peaches before cutting them into slices or rings. The unit consists of welded stainless-steel tubes and a rotating plate with eight stations for the fruits. A mechanism for the three operations is positioned above the plate on the back of the fruit input chute. The plate holding the fruits rotates in steps and halts for the three operations: coring, pushing and cutting. Once the operator places the fruits in the machine, all movements are mechanically controlled. The first mechanism uses a pneumatic cylinder to perform an up and down movement. A rotating steel tube driven by an electric motor cores the fruits. Coring tube diameters are fully adjustable. The second mechanism pushes the fruit through the third step, where the knife cuts the fruit into slices or rings. A stainless-steel box on the machine contains the control unit and frequency converter for synchronising operations.
Unique geographical location
The Cadiz Bay Port Authority is completing the infrastructure work for a new container terminal (NCT, image) to strengthen the port's competitive edge. The authority is now inviting interested companies to participate in a long-term concession programme for the development, operation, management and commercialization of the NCT. With its unique geographic location, which connects the global routes of four continents, Africa, Asia, America and Europe, the port brings together shipping traffic equivalent to more than eight million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units). Thanks to an efficient infrastructure and modern unloading facilities, the operators are confident that the new terminal will become the best-suited container terminal in southern Europe. Key features include an area covering 220,000 square metres, a wharf up to 900 metres long, and a depth of 16 metres. Added to this is the direct connection to Madrid, the Atlantic and Mediterranean corridors, and to Europe.
Sustainable logistics hub for cold storage
The Port of Huelva is introducing an innovative cold storage system (image) at FRUIT LOGISTICA 2019. Developed in cooperation with Enagás, the system creates a sustainable logistics hub for cold storage in the port area and is already in operation in Japan. The concept uses the residual cold created during the re-evaporation process in the Enagás plant and transfers it to the cold storage units. The freezer reaches temperatures down to -36°C and achieves energy savings of more than 50% with a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions. The initiative was developed by a new Enagás subsidiary, Enagás 4 Efficiency, in conjunction with Enagás Emprende. This programme promotes the creation of start-ups by employees and third parties with a focus on energy efficiency and natural gas use. A logistics centre for cold storage will also be set up in the Port of Huelva South Wharf area.
Easy to use and quick screening results
Portable EASY KIT® compact laboratories (image) were developed in cooperation with the University of Valencia, Iata-CSIC and Citrosol. They are easy to use and deliver fast and economical inspection results in storage facilities. Depending on the number of samples, the analysis of treatment solutions and waxes takes only 25 to 30 minutes. For fruit residue tests, multiple samples can be analysed within 40 to 45 minutes. Citrosol's key development involves the analysis of fungicides used in the production of citrus fruits. One of these fungicides, pyrimethanil, is often used on pipfruit, such as pears and apples. EASY KIT® is an innovative solution for screening post-harvest treatment and end-product processes in accordance with accredited quality standards (ISO 9000, ISO 14000, HACCP) and Good Agricultural Practices (Global G.A.P.).This includes distribution channels and compliance with legal guidelines for residues.
Small seeds, thin skin and sweet pulp
According to the exhibitor, Anastasia F1 is characterised by features that are unique and in-demand on national and international markets: small seeds, a relatively thin 1cm shell, and pulp that is bright red, crunchy and sweet. This new melon variety meets industry needs because it adapts perfectly to most plantations, including polyethylene tunnels (image) and outdoor cultivation. Early and late grafting is possible in winter in a greenhouse and in spring in a polytunnel. The plants are robust with excellent leaf cover of the fruits to protect them from sunburn. The Modula-PRO (image) is an innovative electronic plastic-layer seeder designed for spreading seed with mulch film. It consists of a shredder with a special cutting system and seed drill that receives the seed from an upper feeder unit and deposits it in the ground. The seed elements are movable for maximum flexibility in controlling seed spacing in the soil. Each seed feeder is equipped with an optical sensor to track the path of the seeds through the piercing element. The seeding elements interact with a CAN-BUS system, making it possible to control the Modula PRO via user display. The main feature of the display is the CAN system, which records all machine, sowing and maintenance data.
