Fernando Garcia Bastidas
Fernando is an agronomist with a MSc in biotechnology and a PhD in plant breeding and plant health. For more than eight years he worked in the coffee breeding program in Colombia, before moving to the Netherlands where he completed his PhD at Wageningen University & Research. His focus was the understanding of the Fusarium banana pathosystem. His major activity was the identification of sources of resistant to Panama disease among the banana diversity. Those resistant bananas have potential future applications in breeding programmes.
